About

Cansu Öter

Biography

Cansu Öter is a self-taught abstract artist based in Germany. Born in Türkiye, she began painting during the pandemic as an intuitive exploration of movement and authentic expression.

Her practice is deeply informed by her experience as an immigrant, having lived in Türkiye, Sweden and Germany. Her work has been presented in group exhibitions, in person and online, since 2022. She continues to develop her work around layered abstract painting and reflective, conceptual themes.

Statement

My practice is an intuitive exploration of resilience, inner movement and emotional transformation. I work mainly in acrylic and mixed media on paper and canvas, using a spatula, brush, sponge, roller and paste to build each surface from many layers, deep contrasts and atmospheric textures. Earlier stages stay visible beneath the later ones, like memories inside the finished painting. My works come together in small collections, each gathering paintings that share a mood or a palette.

A central part of my practice is pairing every painting with a motivational quote. They are not passive titles but conceptual anchors that turn the canvas into a space for reflection. They invite you to pause, breathe, and meet the painting as a moment of stillness and clarity amid life's unpredictable shifts.
